  • Cleaning fresh nail paint-

Use a spoon to scoop up the nail paint.  Fresh nail paint moreover, is easier to remove than the one which has already dried up.  I might not be possible for you to pick up all the nail paint at one go especially when the spill is large. Make sure however to clean the spoon or use a new one every time you repeat the process. This will help you avoid the nail paint from spreading.

After doing this, you can get rid of the remaining nail polish by using an old towel or cloth. The trick, however, is to wrap the cloth on your finger and gently dabbing. Keep in mind that rubbing will only make your nail polish go deeper into your carpet. Use the unused area of the cloth every time you blot to avoid spreading the stain.

  • Using a cleaner to remove the stain-

Although there are many cleaners which you can use to remove nail paint from the carpet, there are some which you must avoid such as acetone and bleach. Both of these can discolor and damage the carpet. Here are some of the cleaners you can use to remove nail polish effectively- 1) Hairspray 2) Rubbing Alcohol 3) Window Cleaner 4) Hydrogen Peroxide

It’s necessary to do a patch test whenever you are trying anything new on your carpet. Dip a cotton pad in the cleaner you want to use and try it on a very small inauspicious area of the carpet. An area under the furniture will work fine for a patch test. Check for discoloration after a few minutes and if it does, try something else.

  • Using nail polish remover-

Take a cotton pad and dip it in nail polish remover or any other cleaner. Blot the stain with it in dabbing motion. Use fresh cotton pads to avoid the nail polish from spreading. Keep dabbing until there is no stain on the carpet. Make sure, however, not to pour the nail polish remover directly over the stain.

  • Getting rid of dried nail polish-

Scrape off the excess nail polish by using knife, spoon or fingers so that it becomes easier to clean. You can also trim the fibers with the nail polish on it. Do not go too deep however as this will be visible on your carpet making it appear uneven. Once you have scraped off all the excess nail polish, use a vacuum to suck all the remaining flecks. This will help you in further process. This will also help you remove cut down fibers. A nail paint remover which is free from acetone is best for removing nail polish stains form carpet.

Do a patch test by dipping a cotton pad in it and trying it on a small carpet area. There are other cleaners too which you can dry. If the color of your carpets is dark, do not use hydrogen peroxide as it might bleach or discolor your carpet. Now use a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover or any other cleaner and dab on the stain to remove it. Keep blotting with a fresh piece of cotton until the stain is no more. Do not rub too hard however. You can even use a toothbrush gently to remove the stain from the carpet.
